Fall Festival Monday Sept. 26th 4:30-6:30 pmUpcoming Themes: Friends, Apples, Fall, & PumpkinsThe Creation Story
We have had a busy and fun start back to school!  The children are continuing to settle into our daily routine.

We have been thinking about Friendship and getting to know all of our new Blue Room friends.  We start our day with a hello song and end with a goodbye song.  We also noticed that friends begins with the letter F. Our favorite activities this past week included painting blue and white paint with potato mashers and sponges, and making friendly faces on paper plates.  We noticed that white paint made the blue paint lighter, and several of our friendly faces turned into spiders.

At our science center, the children enjoyed printing their fingerprints and looking at them with a magnifying glass.  They also listened to their heartbeats with a stethoscope.  It was fun to see that friends can be alike and different.

At our sensory table, we played with blue play dough on Monday and scooped beans with different sized scoops on Wednesday.

In Bible, we read the creation story and we talked about how God is a God who grows good things.  We looked at seeds and good soil and noticed that God makes seeds grow. We also thought about how God makes children grow, and God makes love grow inside us.

In our math center, we are developing one to one correspondence by counting friends (little people) and using the Big Button math pages.  On Wednesday, we will add a spinner. The children can spin the spinner and then count the number of friends the spinner landed on.

Thank you for sharing your children with us!

Ms. Jennifer and Ms. Julie

Learning math can happen with a simple laundry basket full of socks!  This week we played a fun sock game.  The children helped me match and sort the socks.  We discovered big, medium, small, and tiny socks. We noticed that socks can be the same color and still not match. We put them in order from biggest to smallest. We thought about how feet grow. Then, we put the basket at the homeliving center for the children to pretend to wash, sort, and hang up the socks to dry. So much fun and learning with socks!

Fruit of the Spirit - Grapes & StrawberryValentinesValentines Party Feb. 13th
This week we will play with all things valentines. We will learn to cut out hearts. Decorate cards and hear stories about how we love one another and how God loves us.

We will work with heart patterns, count candy hearts, rank heart sizes as well as trace and write the letter V and the number 2.

Monday we will make a craft with candy hearts and Wednesday we will make a valentine card for our parents. Friday we will make creatures our of different size hearts.

In Chapel on Wednesday, we will hear about the fruit of the spirit kindness, which is represented by grapes. With grapes you can have one and give one to a friend. That is a way of showing kindness.

The strawberry shows goodness because they are soooooo good!

These yummy fruits help us remember the fruits of the spirit.

"With growing academic expectations being placed on young children each year, it's easy to forget how critical play is to their social, emotional, and cognitive growth. In fact, research has shown that playtime provides experiences that promote the underlying skills necessary for your child's learning in school and beyond, such as improved memory, oral-language ability, and deeper engagement in literacy activities."

                   Calendar Time
Calendar time is an interactive learning opportunity and a daily routine for our classroom that introduces us to concepts such as sequence, pre-math and  pre-reading skills as well as days of the week and the months of the year.
•We practice our counting and number recognition as we count up the days that bring us to the current date.
•We also work on patterning as we determine which shape and/or color comes next on the calendar.
•Learning to count the days from left to right introduces a pre-reading skill.
•We begin to memorize the days of the week in order as well as their place in scope of today, yesterday and tomorrow.
•We experience leadership as the children take turns guiding the class through our calendar activities.
•We become familiar with the environment around us as we notice the weather outside and discuss how it affects our lives.
Experiencing these concepts daily in a way that is relevant to the children makes learning exciting and motivating.
