We play to learn!
Once the fall arrives, all the children at the Westwood Preschool will be engaged in age-appropriate learning and development. The teachers and staff are excited to be returning to develop relationships and work with your kids. This is the place on the new Preschool website that, closer to our opening day, you can read about the particular philosophy of learning that your child's teacher will be following.

Calendar Time
Calendar time is an interactive learning opportunity and a daily routine for our classroom that introduces us to concepts such as sequence, pre-math and pre-reading skills as well as days of the week and the months of the year.
•We practice our counting and number recognition as we count up the days that bring us to the current date.
•We also work on patterning as we determine which shape and/or color comes next on the calendar.
•Learning to count the days from left to right introduces a pre-reading skill.
•We begin to memorize the days of the week in order as well as their place in scope of today, yesterday and tomorrow.
•We experience leadership as the children take turns guiding the class through our calendar activities.
•We become familiar with the environment around us as we notice the weather outside and discuss how it affects our lives.
Experiencing these concepts daily in a way that is relevant to the children makes learning exciting and motivating.
